Embassy of the United States of America, Manila
Warden Notice

August 12,2004

THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EMBASSY WARDEN SYSTEM AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO AMERICAN CITIZENS IN THE PHILIPPINES. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD. THANK YOU.

Important information concerning changes to military retiree health care benefits.

The military retiree community should be aware that they will lose their TRICARE benefit overseas if they elect to decline/refuse enrollment in Medicare Part B altogether. Although Medicare does not pay for care or services received overseas, the pre-requisite for TRICARE eligibility is going to be enrollment in Medicare Part B. For beneficiaries over 65 years of age who previously declined or refused enrollment into Medicare Part B, who elect to enroll in Medicare Part B after 31 Dec 04 (Open season is 1 January through 1 April) the eligibility start date will not be until 1 July.

It is imperative that beneficiaries understand their options and the consequences of their decision. If beneficiaries have questions or concerns, they may contact the Westpac Service Center: 888-777-8343 option #4 or 808-433-1948/1390 Email: linda.albritton@haw.tamc.amedd.army.mil ellenjane.cleghorn@haw.tamc.amedd.army.mil kimo.keliipaakaua@haw.tamc.amedd.army.mil
