Olongapo/Subic Information

SBFZ - Ye Olde Naval Base

The former U.S. Naval Base is now the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) operated by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). The first SBMA Chairman, Dick Gordon, previously mayor of Olongapo City, was replaced by Mr. Felicito Payumo of Bataan in 1998.

ACCESS Entry is controlled much like it was as a military installation. All gates are open for cars. Each gate is manned by polite, blue-uniformed civilian guards. Every major street corner has a guard who will issue you a ticket in a heart beat for any infraction. Police motorcycles are a common sight.

PASSES Annual personal and vehicle passes and duty free "ration cards" are issued at the old SUBCOM building (#H-8211), including photos and cashiers. Check with the RAO Director for current forms and procedures.

PERSONAL PASS If you are walking, enter through the main gate just like the old days. Entry control is fairly lenient. Show any picture ID (including your military ID or SBFZ bankbook) to obtain a pass. RAO members can obtain an SBMA ID card, 200 pesos, renewable on your birth date.

VEHICLE PASS If you are driving, you must obtain a pass for your vehicle, valid for that day. Passes are issued at each of the gates. Local residents, including retirees, can obtain an annual vehicle pass sticker in January, 100 pesos. You must have an SBMA ID card to obtain a vehicle sticker.
